Admissions & care coordination

Professional Referrals

If you are a clinician or another professional supporting someone who may benefit from residential care, COGNIFUL admissions can explain the assessment process and the information required for clinical review. Referrals are considered individually; admission depends on suitability and availability.

Who COGNIFUL may be appropriate for

COGNIFUL provides residential care in Mallorca for mental health, addiction, trauma, and co-occurring needs, with primarily individual psychotherapy and settings for a maximum of two or four clients. A private bedroom is provided within a shared residential environment.

The relevant question is whether this setting can safely meet the person’s current needs. Diagnosis, previous treatment, present functioning, physical health, substance use, medication, and the required level of support all inform that decision. Explore what we treat and our approach.

When another level of care is needed first

COGNIFUL is not an acute psychiatric hospital or an emergency service. Immediate safety concerns, acute medical or psychiatric instability, or a need for medically supervised withdrawal may require assessment and treatment elsewhere first. Do not delay urgent local care while awaiting a referral response.

A referral does not establish acceptance. The team may need further information or recommend a different care pathway before a residential stay can be considered. Travel should follow clinical approval and confirmed arrangements.

Start with a referral conversation

Contact the shared admissions team at [email protected] or +41 44 500 5111, identifying the inquiry as a COGNIFUL referral. Initially, explain your role and the broad reason for referral without sending unnecessary sensitive records.

Ask admissions to confirm the appropriate secure route and consent requirements before transferring clinical documentation. Do not assume that ordinary email is the agreed channel for a full clinical record. The patient’s involvement, consent, and applicable confidentiality obligations should guide information sharing.

Information that can help clinical review

  • The reason for referral, current difficulties, and the person’s goals.
  • Relevant diagnoses, assessments, previous treatment, and response to care.
  • Current medication, prescribing arrangements, allergies, and important medical conditions.
  • Current substance use and any known withdrawal history or risks.
  • Relevant safety concerns and the level of support currently required.
  • Existing professionals, local supports, and proposed continuity after discharge.
  • The person’s consent for contact and sharing relevant information.

This list is a preparation aid, not a substitute for the team’s assessment requirements. Admissions will clarify what is needed for the particular inquiry. Read how admission works for practical steps.

Agreeing roles and communication

COGNIFUL shares its clinical team with THE BALANCE. Assigned clinicians and specialist involvement depend on assessment and the care plan; see Clinical Team & Care Coordination.

Where appropriate and authorized, coordination with an existing clinician can support continuity. Clarify who will receive updates, what information can be shared, the purpose of communication, and how changes in consent are handled. The patient should understand the proposed arrangements. Family involvement should also be discussed explicitly rather than assumed.

Fees, duration, and discharge planning

Stays usually last four to twelve weeks, reviewed individually. The weekly program fee is CHF 55,000 for a setting with a maximum of two clients or CHF 35,000 for a setting with a maximum of four clients. A written proposal confirms inclusions and additional costs. COGNIFUL is self-pay and does not cooperate directly with insurers; reimbursement cannot be guaranteed. See fees and insurance.

Planning for the next stage should begin before departure. Confirm ongoing appointments, the receiving clinician where relevant, medication and prescribing arrangements, and the information needed for a useful handover. Continuing care planning is included; actual ongoing services and fees are agreed individually. Read continuing care and our returning-home guides.
